Treatment Price Increase – What This Means for Your Care
From 1 September 2025, the cost of GLP-1 treatment has increased across the UK following a wholesale price rise by the manufacturer, Eli Lilly. This is not specific to Dr.Online – it applies to all providers, pharmacies, and clinics.
We know price changes can be frustrating, so this page explains what’s happening, how it affects your treatment, and what your options are.
Why are treatment prices changing?
- Eli Lilly has increased the wholesale supply cost of all dose strengths.
- These changes affect every UK healthcare provider – including NHS and private services.
- Dr.Online has no control over these manufacturer-led price changes.
- We have reviewed our service model to keep costs as fair as possible while ensuring safe, regulated care.
When do the new prices apply?
- New prices apply from when our current supply has been dispensed. We anticipate the new pricing to be live from 8th September 2025.
- Current pricing will only remain valid while our current stock lasts. Once those items are dispensed, all treatments will be charged at the new price.
- This means patients cannot secure old pricing for future months by requesting repeat treatments in advance.

1. Switching Between Treatments
Q: Will you support moving from different treatments?
A: Yes. We can support switching where it’s clinically appropriate. Your GP will assess your situation, review your weight history, and create a tailored plan. You will need to wean down the doses of your current treatment and have a short pause whilst switching over.
Q: Do I need a new consultation to switch?
A: Yes – a short video-based review is needed to ensure correct dosing, safety, and to discuss side effects.
Q: Will you still treat me if I originally joined for treatment but want a different plan?
A: Absolutely. We can continue your care on a different GLP-1 or move you to a non-medication weight loss programme.
Q: What if the treatment becomes unavailable entirely?
A: We’ll contact you with alternative options, which may include other GLP-1 medications if clinically suitable. This is an improbable eventuality, but we have contingency plans in place. Additionally, several new options are in the latter stages of development, and we continually monitor novel treatments.
Q: Will there be a waiting list for switching treatments?
A: This will depend on the levels of supply, but we don’t expect a waiting list.
2. Prescriptions & Stock
Q: Can I bulk buy pens in advance?
A: Up until the change in costs and our restructured service offering on 1/9/25 – We can facilitate up to 3 x months of GLP treatment in one order – this is only if all the doses are the same (and appropriate as per last month’s treatment – no jumping doses), and you will be required to complete a questionnaire each month to ensure we monitor your progress and your symptoms. ***
Q: Will existing treatments still be honoured?
A: Yes, whilst stocks last, we can honour the original pricing commitments.
Q: Can I get repeat treatments while supplies last?
A: Yes, if it remains clinically safe and stock is available, we can facilitate this.
Q: What happens if I have unused pens when switching to another GLP1?
A: It depends on the dosage of the unused pens and the plan for switching. We don’t offer extra pens for our patients, so wouldn’t usually be able to comment on treatment from other providers.
3. Dosing & Adjustments
Q: Will I need to restart at a lower dose when switching my GLP1?
A: Yes, you will need to wean down the current medication’s dose, then start the new medication at its lowest dose for safety purposes. We have clear pathways for switching medications.
Q: Will you support micro-dosing?
A: No. The pen’s effectiveness and safety profiles have been studied with the recommended weekly dose of the pen correct dose. Any adjustments to the dosing, eg microdosing, its fully studied and not enabled at Dr.Online.
Q: How will you decide my dose when switching?
A: We’ll consider your current dose, tolerance, weight history, and the manufacturer’s dosing guidance.
4. Pricing & Appointments
Q: Will appointment frequency change if I switch?
A: No, we always adhere to our monthly assessments either by questionnaire or video (your choice)

5. Maintenance, Pausing & Restarting
Q: I’m in maintenance and my BMI is now in the healthy range – can I still transfer?
A: Yes, in some cases. Our GP will assess whether continued medication is suitable for maintaining your weight.
Q: Can I pause treatment and restart later without losing progress?
A: You can pause, but some people regain weight when stopping. Any gaps of 1 month or more will trigger a medical review and usually involve restarting at a lower dose.
Q: Will you support weight maintenance without medication?
A: Yes. We offer lifestyle-only pathways with diet, exercise, and behaviour support.
Q: What happens if I gain weight after stopping due to supply issues?
A: We’ll reassess you and can restart medication or offer alternative approaches.
6. Side Effects
Q: Will side effects differ between treatments?
A: Possibly. While both are GLP-1-based, one also acts on GIP receptors. Your GP will explain any expected differences before switching.
